Woodstock House
Woodstock House, located in the picturesque county of Surrey, represents the transformation of a one-and-a-half-storey bungalow into a spacious, full-sized family home that offers both comfort and style. Situated in an area with strict planning and design regulations, this project demanded a careful balance between respecting the local architectural context and fulfilling the client's vision for a modern, bespoke home. The design process involved an intricate dialogue between the building’s exterior appearance and its interior layout, ensuring the end result was both harmonious with the surroundings and tailored to the family’s specific needs.
One of the main challenges was reconciling the contemporary rear extension of the house with its more traditional front facade, which had to remain in line with local planning guidelines. The modern rear elevation, with its clean lines, expansive glazing, and open-plan layout, creates a sense of flow and connectivity with the garden, offering a stark contrast to the charming, more classical front that reflects the area's architectural heritage. This juxtaposition allows the house to fit seamlessly within the local streetscape while also providing the family with the contemporary home they desired.
