The Monolith

The design for this project draws heavily on the client’s deep admiration for classical and neo-classical architecture, seeking to celebrate the timeless beauty and grandeur of stone. Inspired by the formal geometry and proportions inherent in classical design, we reinterpreted these traditional elements with a contemporary twist, creating a dialogue between the monumental and the refined.

At the core of the concept was a juxtaposition between polished finishes and raw, textured surfaces. This contrast allowed us to explore the balance between the elegance of perfectly finished stone and the raw beauty of natural, unrefined materials, offering a tactile richness that is both visually striking and sensorially engaging. The polished stone surfaces evoke the monumental, the sense of permanence and grandeur often associated with classical buildings, while the raw, more exposed textures add warmth and depth, creating a sense of intimacy and craftsmanship.

The result is a design that feels both timeless and contemporary—a space that embodies the formal, geometrically driven principles of classical architecture, while celebrating the artistry of carefully crafted materials. It speaks to the idea of a beautifully made object that is both a part of the landscape and an enduring testament to the skill and vision of those who create it.
