This flat in Forest Hill is a bold exploration of texture, reuse, and creative lighting, transforming what was once a cramped two-storey maisonette at the top of a Victorian building into a dynamic and inviting home. The challenges of working with a small, somewhat outdated space were significant, but our clients were eager to embrace the adventure of reimagining their home. The key to this transformation lay in how we approached the space and materials, finding innovative ways to bring new life to every corner.

One of the primary goals was to make the most of the flat’s limited footprint while introducing a sense of openness and light. We creatively repurposed existing materials where possible, reclaiming elements of the original building to preserve some of its historic charm, while also bringing in fresh design ideas. Strategic use of texture - through custom finishes, bespoke joinery, and unique wall treatments - added depth and warmth, creating a welcoming atmosphere throughout.

Lighting played a crucial role in the design, as we used both natural and artificial light to highlight different textures and create a dynamic feel across the space. The flat now enjoys natural light at every point of the day, flooding in through windows and reflecting off the carefully selected surfaces. The end result is a home that is both fun and functional - warm, full of character, and brimming with personality, where every room feels light, open, and full of life.
