Green Studio

Designing a studio for an artist is always a unique challenge, as the space must strike a balance between functionality, inspiration, and aesthetic harmony. The studio needs to be flexible and practical, offering areas for creation and storage, while also fostering an environment that sparks creativity. At the same time, the design must avoid imposing itself on the artist’s process, allowing the space to remain open and fluid. For artist Emma, we aimed to create a space that provides both a refuge and a platform for her artistic expression, without overwhelming the sensory experience.

One of the key aspects of the design is the way sunlight enters the studio, which was considered from various angles to ensure that natural light can infuse the space throughout the day. The play of light and shadow creates an ever-changing atmosphere that invites reflection and inspiration. Additionally, we celebrated the site’s listed history by incorporating elements of the existing architecture, blending the old with the new.

To enhance the connection with nature, both the interior and exterior were enveloped in natural materials, creating a seamless transition between the studio and the surrounding environment. This design allows Emma to interact with the natural world while being cocooned in a space that also facilitates the controlled, artificial environments needed for artistic creation.
