Continuous Frames

This project involved replacing an existing conservatory and garage in Ealing, London, with a new design that would cater to the evolving needs of a modern family. The goal was to create a series of versatile spaces that could serve as a combination of work, play, and relaxation areas, all interconnected to foster a sense of openness and fluidity. The concept was based on the idea of interconnecting visual frames, which allowed for a dynamic interplay between the different spaces, creating a carefully composed arrangement that provided both separation and connection.

Each frame was designed to focus on specific activities - whether it was a quiet work zone, a vibrant play area, or a cozy nook for family gatherings. This approach not only maximized the use of the available space but also allowed the family to engage with the surrounding garden in meaningful ways, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living. The design incorporated natural light and views into every room, ensuring that each space was filled with warmth and energy.

Although we successfully obtained planning permission in this tricky area, the clients ultimately made the decision to sell the house and move to the countryside. Despite this, the design remains a thoughtful exploration of how to transform a domestic space into a harmonious, multifunctional environment.
