Chinese Pavilion
This project is an exciting experiment in architectural fusion, where we explore the relationship between a traditional Arts and Crafts neo-medieval English architectural style and a contemporary series of Asian architectural details, reflecting the cultural heritage of our clients. The design seeks to create a seamless blend of these two distinct styles, bringing together the charm and history of English craftsmanship with the elegance and spiritual depth of Asian aesthetics.
By carefully playing with common elements found in both architectural languages - such as exposed stained timber, render, and brickwork - we’ve created a subtle, minimalist proposal that respects both traditions while offering a fresh perspective. The warm, textured timber and the solid, earthy brick elements draw from Arts and Crafts principles, evoking a sense of grounded beauty and timelessness, while the Asian details introduce fluidity and harmony, often seen in the graceful use of space, light, and ornamentation.
This juxtaposition results in a design that doesn’t overtly shout its influences but instead integrates them in a way that feels natural and organic. The architectural details are clear, yet light, allowing for a sophisticated interplay of styles. The project ultimately offers a space where heritage is not just celebrated but reinterpreted, creating a harmonious environment that is both timeless and contemporary.
